Maruti Suzuki Factory Visit and Startup Diagnostic Session (Nurture Program)

The fusion of technology, innovation, and industry came to life during an insightful visit to the Maruti Suzuki Factory, followed by an engaging startup diagnostic session for 5 winning startups of the Nurture Program’s 1st Cohort from the East and North East Parts of India, at the Maruti Suzuki Innovation Gym. This unique opportunity provided participants with a firsthand experience of witnessing the intricate processes behind automobile manufacturing and understanding the collaborative efforts that fuel innovation in the automotive sector.

Experts from IIM Calcutta Innovation Park Mr. Devasis Gupta (IIMCIP Mentor & Program Director), Mr. Gaurav Kapoor (CBO, IIMCIP) and Mr. Biswajit Dey ( Manager-Incubation) provided constructive feedback, guiding the entrepreneurs on refining their concepts and aligning them with market needs.

270 Startups from NER attend the first Bootcamp of the North East Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NEEDP)

The first bootcamp of the North East Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NEEDP) was organized on the 27th and 28th of March, 2023, at Cotton University in Guwahati, Assam. The 2-day bootcamp was organized to formally onboard and provide orientation to the 270 startups selected from North East India under the NEEDP program.

IIMCIP completes North East India’s biggest Startup Hunt

The startup ecosystem in North East India has witnessed a conspicuous stir in the last five years. Increased investor interest in the region, a rise in the number of startup incubators and access to the market have enabled the startup ecosystem in the region to flourish significantly in recent years. To catalyse the process, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, along with the North Eastern Council, launched a first-of-its-kind programme, the ‘North East Entrepreneurship Development Programme’(NEEDP) in September 2022 to identify and empower 270 promising entrepreneurs from the 8 North-Eastern states with well-laid incubation and pre-incubation programs.

TSEC Spark Social Seminar makes its Grand Opening @ IIM Calcutta Campus on 3rd March

Held at the IIM Calcutta campus on March 03, 2023, the TSEC Spark Social Seminar marked the grand launch of the 11th edition of the TATA Social Enterprise Challenge.

The grand launch and seminar witnessed an audience of more than 90 aspiring startups and student entrepreneurs from West Bengal. The participants were treated to two appetizing stories of entrepreneurial journeys narrated by the founders of two socially impactful startups incubated under IIM Calcutta Innovation Park. Kalyan Koley (Founder and CEO, Ageipan Animal Biocare Pvt. Ltd.) and Praabal Kumar Basu (Founder, Zaarii) poured their hearts out during their addresses, throwing light on social entrepreneurship and their own stance as social entrepreneurs. The seminar concluded with an interesting Q&A round with Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal, CEO, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.

Earlier in the day, Namami Ghosh (Head – Portfolio Management, IIMCIP) made a special address to the audience. The seminar was hosted by Tanusree Mazumder (Manager, Program & Events, IIMCIP).

We are pleased to collaborate with Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (IGKV) Raipur to promote entrepreneurship in Chhattisgarh. The collaboration was inked during the inauguration ceremony of the 5-day International Agriculture Madai Agri Carnival 2022 at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University on October 14.

Back in June, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, in association with AIC-36Inc, conducted an Incubator Meet in Chhattisgarh, with the objective to provide an overview of supporting entrepreneurship and innovation within the academia. The workshop was attended by incubation heads and managers from IGKV R-ABI, Shri Shankaracharya Technical Campus, Bhilai Institute of Technology, NIT Raipur, Kalinga University and Think-B.

10 emerging deep-tech startups of India selected for MeitY Samridh – The Deep Tech Accelerator program

The wait finally got over for the 10 emerging deep-tech startups of India selected for MeitY Samridh – The Deep Tech Accelerator program, as they met each other during a bootcamp organized at the IIM Calcutta campus from 13 Oct – 15 Oct 2022.

The 3-day program focused on breaking the ice, setting the roadmap, understanding the startups’ offerings along with their roadblocks and providing them with the initial guidance. Special sessions were taken on the Go-To-Market Strategy and the nitty gritty of Fundraising.
The startups were mentored and guided by IIMCIP’s premium pool of experts like Mr. Devasis Gupta, Mentor, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park; Mr. Somesh Bhagat, Mentor and Member, External Evaluation Committee for Incubation, Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur; Mr. Prabir Chatterjee, Partner, Grey Matter & Greenbacks; Mr. Sandip Poddar, Resident Mentor CIE IIIT Hyderabad; Mr. Bikas Mandal, Professor, Institute of Engineering and Management; Mr. Sanjoy Sen, Director, Opt-Solutionz Marketing OPC Pvt. Ltd.; Ms. Namami Ghosh, Head, Portfolio Management, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park; and Mr. Debapratim Das, Chief Finance Officer & Senior Mentor, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.
Earlier in the day, Gaurav Kapoor, Chief Business Officer, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, opened the house with a welcome note, followed by key addresses from Mr. Gaurav Thareja Asst. Manager, Invest India and Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal, Chief Executive Officer, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.

The startup founders coming from different parts of the country not just gained in terms of getting clarity on their business roadmaps, but also in building a healthy camaraderie with each other.

Launch of North East Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NEEDP), an initiative in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC)

We are super stoked to announce the launch of North East Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NEEDP), an initiative in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC). It’s a first-of-its-kind program encompassing startups from all the 8 states of North East India. 270 promising startups from the region will be identified and supported to scale new heights through well-laid incubation and pre-incubation programs.

The program was launched today at NEC Secretariat, Nongrim Hills in Shillong, in the presence of Shri K. Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary, NEC and Smt. R. Lalrodingi, Advisor, BIT, NEC. We were ably represented by Pranjal Konwar, COO, IIMCIP, Rajarshi Sarma, Program Head, NEEDP and Flo Oberhofer, Program Head, Prime Hub Meghalaya.

The first phase of the initiative, the NE Entrepreneurship Challenge (Hunt) was also formally launched during the inauguration ceremony. The Hunt is a combination of multiple initiatives aimed at identifying top 270 startup ideas from the region. It would culminate with a Reward and Recognition Summit, wherein the 270 selected startups will be awarded with cash prizes, certificates and enrollment into the Incubation and Pre-Incubation programs.

The 10th Edition of the TATA Social Enterprise Challenge pulled its curtains in style with the Social Entrepreneurship Summit held in the IIM Calcutta campus on July 2, 2022.

Apart from declaring the winners of TSEC 2021-22, the SE Summit also continued with the tradition of hosting the who’s who from the development space and deliberating over some key aspects concerning social entrepreneurship.
The TSEC SE Summit 2021-22 was graced by Peeyush Gupta, Vice President (Supply Chain) – TATA Steel, and Board Chairman – Tata Steel (Thailand) PLC., Jamipol Ltd., TM International Logistics Ltd., Creative Port Development Pvt. Ltd. and Subarnarekha Port Pvt. Ltd., as a Chief Guest.
The Summit was also attended by several distinguished social entrepreneurs and industry figures like Ved Arya, Founder & Director, The Buddha Institute; Pranshu Singhal, Founder, Karo Sambahv and Social Entrepreneur of the year 2021; and Prof Manish Thakur, Dean New Initiatives & External Relations, IIM Calcutta.
Following an inaugural address by Prof Manish Thakur, the CEO of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal, introduced the theme for the TSEC Summit 2021-22 – “Leaping Forward and Fostering Resilience.”
The highlight of the Summit was a special panel discussion on this year’s theme. The panel comprised of four dynamic startup founders, viz., Jahan Peston James, Founder, BOHECO; Ambika Satapathy, Co-Founder, FreshR; Satendrasingh Lilhare, Founder Bastar Se Bazar Tak, and Saurabh Ray, Founder Monosha Biotech. The eye opening discussion was moderated by Prof Chandradeep Mitra, Founder and CEO, PipalMajik, and Mentor, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.

The 10th Edition of TATA Social Enterprise Challenge received a record breaking 6600 applications. 110 applications were shortlisted for the regional rounds. These applications covered areas such as agriculture, healthcare, water and sanitation, technology and development, education and skills development, housing, handicrafts, energy and microfinance, among others. Based on the business plan presentations, 22 social enterprises were selected for the semi-finals and eventually 12 enterprises made it to the finals.

IIM Calcutta Innovation Park had organised a reunion for the incubated startups on June 30 and July 1, 2022, after a gap of 2 years forced by the pandemic. The 2-day meet held at the IIM Calcutta campus was attended by more than 20 incubated startups from across India. The meet was laced with knowledge sessions, diagnostic sessions, mentoring and interactions with investors and successful startups. More importantly, it facilitated a common platform for the incubated startups to rekindle the camaraderie and strike discussions towards forging rewarding collaborations.
